The ICT
department aligns its efforts with the university’s overall strategy and ensure that its resources
are being used effectively to achieve the desired outcomes. University endeavours to use ICT
based solutions in teaching, learning, research, innovation and administration.

ICT Governance and Service Management

ICT governance refers to the overall management and oversight of ICT resources and services, ensuring alignment with the university's overall strategic objectives and compliance with relevant policies and regulations. Service management, on the other hand, focuses on the delivery of high- quality and reliable ICT services to the university’s stakeholders, including students, faculty, and 3 staff. Developing and implementing an ICT governance framework that defines roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes related to ICT resources and services. By focusing on ICT governance and service management as a strategic area, the ICT department will ensure that its resources and services are effectively managed and aligned with the university’s overall strategy, and that stakeholders receive high-quality and reliable ICT services to support their work.

ICT Infrastructure and Operations

This area includes managing and maintaining the university's ICT infrastructure, including its network, data centres, servers, and hardware. This might involve tasks such as upgrading and expanding the infrastructure, ensuring its reliability and security, and monitoring performance.

Software and Applications Development

This area focuses on the development, integration, and maintenance of software applications that support the university’s academic and administrative functions. This might involve tasks such as developing custom software, integrating third-party software solutions, and providing technical support to users.

Information Security and Compliance

This area focuses on ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the university's information assets, as well as compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements. This might involve tasks such as developing and implementing security policies and procedures, monitoring and responding to security incidents, and conducting regular security audits.

Teaching and Learning Support

This area focuses on supporting the use of technology in teaching and learning, including the development of e-learning platforms, materials, online collaboration tools, and multimedia 4 resources. It also involves tasks such as providing training and support to faculty and students, managing online learning platforms, and collaborating with academic departments to develop and implement technology-based teaching strategies.

Research and Data Management

The university has a strong research focus and as such the ICT department plays a critical role in supporting research activities by providing access to specialized software and tools that support research activities, such as statistical analysis software, simulation and modelling tools, and research collaboration platforms. This ICT strategic plan will enable the development and maintenance of research computing infrastructure, including high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and data storage and management systems to and ensure the security and integrity of research data. By focusing on research as a strategic area, the ICT department contributes to the overall success of the university’s research program, and help to attract and retain top researchers and students.

Data Analytics and Business Intelligence

This area focuses on using data analytics and business intelligence tools to gain insights into the university’s operations and improve decision-making. This might involve tasks such as collecting and analyzing data from various sources, developing dashboards and reports, and collaborating with stakeholders to identify key performance indicators and metrics.
